a home for lou was made for Transmissions Quilts: a project where quilts are collaboratively made for trans people, celebrating the role quilts have historically played in marking life's transitions and welcoming change.
The film was made using an animation technique called a woven loop: an ouroboros-like loop where new drawings are continually built from the existing frames, drawn on the same sheets of paper. I drew the film on 18 sheets of paper using pastel charcoal pencils. As a result of the same sheets of paper being scanned and re-scanned, and handled by warm hands for many months, the lines degrade, blur, and soften to touch as the film progresses.
